Nevis Film Commission Officially Launches with Special Screening of Hamilton’s America and Live Q&A with Director Alex Horwitz

CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS – June 26, 2025 – The Nevis Island Administration is pleased to announce the successful launch of the Nevis Film Commission this past weekend at the Nevis Performing Arts Center (NEPAC), a landmark moment in elevating Nevis’ profile as a premier destination for international film and television production.

Held on Sunday, June 22, the event welcomed guests to a cocktail reception followed by a screening of the acclaimed documentary Hamilton’s America. The evening featured opening remarks by The Honourable Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis, and Film Commissioner Pamela Martin, who introduced the goals of the new Commission and outlined its potential to support creative industry growth on the island.

The launch was attended by several distinguished guests, including Minister Spencer Brand and Her Honour Deputy Governor General Mrs. Hyleta Liburd, underscoring the significance of the Film Commission's official launch to the island's cultural and economic development.

Following the screening, guests enjoyed a live virtual Q&A with the film’s director, Alex Horwitz, who spoke about Nevis’ historical significance and its cinematic relevance as the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton. During the post-screening Q&A, director Alex Horwitz shared that the production team behind Hamilton’s America had originally planned to visit Nevis as part of their research for the documentary. However, their trip was ultimately canceled due to the Zika virus outbreak at the time and was never rescheduled—making this weekend’s screening and virtual conversation a meaningful full-circle moment for both Horwitz and the island.

Registered attendees were entered to win exclusive prizes, including Cape Air tickets and a stay at Mount Nevis Hotel. The event also welcomed Juliette Jeffers, actress known for her roles in Tulsa King and The Residence, as a special guest in support of the launch.

“The formal launch of the Nevis Film Commission is a giant leap forward for the emerging film industry on the island of Nevis,” said Hon. Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis. “What started during the COVID-19 pandemic with MSR Media is now blossoming into a legitimate effort at diversifying the local economy. Nevis remains focused on its mission to create a unique destination for film, photo shoots, commercials, and televised events. The Film Commission now provides a local interface for all those interested in using Nevis for their next production. We invite the world to do business in Nevis.”

Nevis is quickly gaining momentum as a destination for international film productions, with its lush landscapes and unspoiled charm serving as the backdrop for titles such as A Week in Paradise, distributed by Lionsgate, and Christmas in the Caribbean starring Elizabeth Hurley—both released in the U.S. and streamed on major platforms like Amazon Prime. These projects are part of a growing slate that underscores Nevis’s appeal to filmmakers seeking authenticity, beauty, and ease of production. The Nevis Film Commission offers competitive incentives to qualifying productions, making the island an increasingly attractive choice for filmmakers.

“The launch of the Film Commission reflects Nevis’ readiness to support high-quality productions,” said Nevis Film Commissioner, Pamela Martin. “We’ve created a foundation that will support filmmakers from production to post, while also generating jobs, skills training, and economic impact for the people of Nevis.”

The Nevis Film Commission is currently active on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn with a dedicated website launching soon to serve as a centralized platform for industry guidelines, location resources, and production inquiries.
